Everyone, I’m elated to tell you that Tumblr will be joining Yahoo.

Before touching on how awesome this is, let me try to allay any concerns: We’re not turning purple. Our headquarters isn’t moving. Our team isn’t changing. Our roadmap isn’t changing. And our mission – to empower creators to make their best work and get it in front of the audience they deserve – certainly isn’t changing.

So what’s new? Simply, Tumblr gets better faster. The work ahead of us remains the same – and we still have a long way to go! – but with more resources to draw from.

Yahoo is the original Internet company, and Marissa and her team share our dream to make the Internet the ultimate creative canvas. I couldn’t be more excited to have her help. We also share a vision for Tumblr’s business that doesn’t compromise the community and product we love. Plus both our logos end with punctuation!

As always, everything that Tumblr is, we owe to this unbelievable community. We won’t let you down.

“Men and boys can be assaulted and raped by women. It’s not related to masculinity”

Either gender can be assaulted by either gender. People tend to think that it is not possible for males to be assaulted by females. This is not true. And it doesn’t make the victim any less of a man for it before the assault or afterwards.

Too many people forget that males can also be raped. It’s not just females who get abused and/or raped. Males do as well. This needs to change. Just because a male gets raped, it doesn’t make him any less deserving of help than if it was a female who was raped by a male. It can go the other way round.

People’s general attitude towards men being sexually assaulted is “lol” and “well that doesn’t sound like a problem!” This attitude contributes towards men feeling emasculated and it needs to stop.

I’m glad that people didn’t just go “lol did you like it?” when it happened to me.

This needs to be circulated more.

Printable A3-sized solar cells hit a new milestone in green energy

Imagine a future where solar panels speed off the presses, like newspaper. Australian scientists have brought us one step closer to that reality.

Researchers from the Victorian Organic Solar Cell Consortium (VICOSC) have developed a printer that can print 10 meters of flexible solar cells a minute. Unlike traditional silicon solar cells, printed solar cells are made using organic semi-conducting polymers, which can be dissolved in a solvent and used like an ink, allowing solar cells to be printed.

Not only can the VICOSC machine print flexible A3 solar cells, the machine can print directly on to steel, opening up the possibility for solar cells to be embedded directly into building materials.

“Eventually we see these being laminated to windows that line skyscrapers,” said David Jones, a researcher at University of Melbourne who is involved with the work. “By printing directly to materials like steel, we’ll also be able to embed cells onto roofing materials.”

Printing 10 meters of solar cells in a minute means good things for solar.
